Strengthening Referral Capacity: Building a Practical Shared Referral Directory
On November 8, 2024, the Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) and MHPSS.net, with the
support of GIZ Sri Lanka, hosted a successful one-day workshop titled “Strengthening Referral
Capacity: Building a Practical Shared Referral Directory” at the Bharathi Star Hotel in
Kilinochchi. This event aimed to enhance referral systems within Mental Health and
Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services across the Northern Province.
The workshop brought together key MHPSS service providers from both civil society
organizations and the state sector, uniting participants in their commitment to build a more
coordinated and efficient referral network. Attendees engaged in capacity-building exercises
designed to empower them to develop and conduct internal training on referrals within their
organizations.
A key outcome of the workshop was the creation of a preliminary referral directory for MHPSS
services in the Northern Province, a foundational tool that will support streamlined referrals and foster a more robust MHPSS system for communities in need. The event underscored the
importance of collaborative effort in strengthening mental health services across the region.
