Celebration of World Mental Health Day: It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in theWorkplace

On November 1, 2024, the Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) hosted a compelling forum titled
“It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace” to address the growing need for mental
health support in professional environments. The event brought together leading voices in the
fields of mental health, law, and social sciences to explore the critical role that mental well-being plays within workplaces.

The forum featured a distinguished panel of speakers:

Dr. Mahesan Ganesan – Consultant Psychiatrist and retired Head of the National
Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), who provided insights from his extensive experience
in mental health, emphasizing the importance of proactive mental health strategies within
organizations.

Dr. Saisanathani Sridharan – Academic Head of ANC School of Social Sciences,
Health Psychologist, and West London Accredited Lecturer, who discussed psychological
challenges employees face, the impacts of workplace stress on overall well-being, and
effective interventions to promote healthier work environments.

Ms. Naushalya Rajapaksha – Attorney at Law, Founder of the "Yeheliya" Foundation, and a respected advocate for youth and gender rights, who highlighted the intersections of mental health, workplace policies, and gender equality, underscoring the legal and ethical considerations for inclusive mental health support.

Throughout the event, attendees engaged in interactive discussions and exchanged perspectives on integrating mental health as a priority in workplace policies and practices.
