Shedding Light on Torture: FRC’s 2nd Open Forum Explores Legal, Medical, and Human Rights Perspectives in Sri Lanka

The 2nd Open Forum Discussion on Torture and Human Rights in the Sri Lankan Context, hosted by the Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) on 28th May 2024, featured two distinguished speakers. Professor Wasantha Seneviratne, an Attorney-at-Law and Chair Professor of Public and International Law at the Department of Public and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, delivered a presentation on Torture in the Human Rights Context in Sri Lanka. Dr. Ajith Tennakoon, a Grade One Senior Lecturer and

Head of the Forensic Medicine Unit at the Medical Faculty of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University of Sri Lanka, also shared his insights with a presentation on Torture in Sri Lanka. Dr. Tennakoon is a renowned teacher and postgraduate trainer in Forensic Medicine and a fellow and member of several national and international professional bodies. The forum provided a comprehensive overview of the issue of torture in Sri Lanka, incorporating legal, medical, and human rights perspectives to inform and engage stakeholders on this critical subject.
