Bridging Theory and Practice: FRC and University of Jaffna Launch Internship Program to Empower Future Psychologists

In February 2024, the Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) and the University of Jaffna initiated discussions to formalize a partnership aimed at enhancing the professional development of psychology graduates. Following these preliminary meetings, on 26th April 2024, the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a dedicated internship program. This program is designed to offer valuable hands-on experience to students who have completed their undergraduate degrees in psychology, enabling them to refine their practical skills and better prepare for professional roles in the field.

Through this collaboration, selected graduates will engage in a structured 3-month internship program at FRC, where they will gain exposure to real-world psychosocial support activities, working closely with experienced professionals. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Gadamabanathan, Chairman of FRC, and Mr. Sri Sathkunaraja, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna. This agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening the academic and practical linkages between the two institutions. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and field practice, the partnership aims to equip new graduates with the necessary expertise to contribute meaningfully to mental health and psychosocial well-being within their communities.
